Ранняя история русской государственности связана с историей заселения в I тыс. до н.э. севера и центра Восточно-Европейской равнины славянскими племенами. Они пришли сюда задолго до Великого переселения народов (3–7 вв.), жили оседло и занимались охотой, рыболовством и земледелием, в степной полосе – скотоводством. В византийских источниках (Прокопий Кесарийский) те из славян, что занимали территорию от Черного моря на юге до Ладоги и Балтики на севере, от низовьев Дуная на западе до Волги и Северного Донца на востоке именовались венедами или антами. |
